Kanika Pinto graduated from the University of Miami, in 1999, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She is a Christian wife, mother of two beautiful daughters, and a professional upper primary and art educator. 

In 2010, under the pen name K.L.  Wilkins; she placed second in the adult division of the Washington County (Maryland)  Free Library's Easy Picture Book writing contest with her picture book -TERRIBLE, Too!. Later that same year, she was approached by her Aunt Nadine to self-publish TERRIBLE, Too!.   Inspired, Kanika began researching the growing world of self-publishing and in 2012 TERRIBLE, Too! made its debut on Amazon.com.

In 2012, combining her love for children's picture books with her quest for seeing more girls (especially girls of color) on the pages, Kanika launched Books, Rhymes, & Thinkers.  Books, Rhymes, & Thinkers is a niche publishing company that "capture(s) glowing images of young girls through the pages of picture books; showcasing who they are and whom they are striving to become."
